Letting go of expectations

Just the other day I was speaking to a dear friend of mine and he was sharing with me his troubles with following his creative path.

He is a painter and was excited to be painting again after so many years of resisting to do the work. But he found that what he wanted to create was not what he painted.

Oh, and do I know how this feels!!

You have a certain imagery in your mind. That is what you want to create.

You did your homework and have a clear picture. Only to look at your work when it's finished and see that it doesn't resemble your picture at all.

And I mean, nothing is what it's supposed to be.

Now when that happened in the past I was always upset and confused. What happened...

And then I started thinking:

Obviously I wasn't good enough to create what I had wanted to create.

Obviously, it wasn't for me.

And doubts crept in. Started to take over.

That is what happened to my friend, and all I had to tell him was that everything he needed was already inside him.

Trust your talent. Don't try to do something that isn't you.

This is something they don't teach you at Art School or anywhere else.

Your authentic creative voice is already there... you don't have to learn it only trust it!

This is what I have learned over the years... create what you have inside you.

Don't aim for anything else.

There is one thing that will happen immediately. You will love your work 😁.

There is one caveat, you have to let go! Of expectations.

Other people's expectations.

Just create!
