I help artists and makers build their creative lives on their terms.
Want to make it happen?
Hey, it’s Maurille
This is where I am supposed to write a compelling story about me so you can fall head over heels in love with me…
To be honest I’m not famous people material. I’m a total introvert. I’m a mom of two amazing daughters. Best friend to my husband. If you tell me we’ll leave for a trip in 10 minutes.. I’m game. I say ‘yes’ to most adventures that offer no luxury what so ever. I intend to do things my way, this takes longer but it’s better in the end. (I know, I know).
After I started my creative businesses years ago—which include two books, 3 patents, a children’s accessories brand that was super fun, starting a fashion agency over the weekend one day (both were successful)
Then one day I got stuck. And fear got the better of me. I resisted standing up for myself again. In order to heal myself and unlock my true potential I knew I had to release my Inner Rebel again….
That’s when I started a weekly newsletter that’s all about how to make your creative dreams happen and unpacks the processes of humanity’s most extraordinary creative-entrepreneurs. And besides this I run a one-woman company called The Escapists: the place to go if your want to jazz up your life. Hit it, Jeremy!
I hope you find something here that leaves you feeling inspired.
The super long version
Graduated from Art School - Audio Visual Design. Storytelling and capturing images are my thing.
This is where I fell in love with words and their ability to make people feel something.
My first online business and blog, and failed miserably. I had no idea what I was doing, but it was fun. And started another one right after. Failed too. But it seems entrepreneurship is in my blood and I’m determined.
Set up my own children's brand Jack Rabbit Spring from the living room, when my first daughter is born. My collections are designed around curiosity, creativity and play. Success at last. I sell at fairs around the world, building my brand and have retail outlets all around the globe as far as Japan.
Second daughter is born and I start designing two children’s products. They are a huge success and in order to keep up the production I move from doing it all myself to having a sewing atelier. I manage to get them patented on both products and sell them to a hip and happening kids brand in the Netherlands.
More graduations: fashion design, in order to dress the stories. Moved to London and worked for author and anthropologist Ted Polhemus. After receiving my BA, I’m invited to the Master Degree Fashion and Business at the Institute Français de la Mode. Yes, that is in Paris!
Studied and lived In Paris worked for Martin Margiela, Lidewij Edelkoort and others. Learned how to build a brand, show your true colors and connected with like minded people. I’m feeling good and on a roll.
I start my own textile brand, creating hand made textiles. Selling my work to national and international Haute Couture houses, trend agencies like Pecler Paris, Nelly Rodi and Edelkoort and interior designers like Jan Des Bouvries.
Jack Rabbit Spring is growing and growing and in order to make the most of this situation I decide to set up an agency for kids clothing. Lille Bo, it has 5 international eclectic kids brands under it’s umbrella. We are rocking it. Then the crisis hits. All high-end labels are struggling and I’m forced to quit the agency after a couple of year.
I write my first book. I love the process and I sent in the draft. It gets accepted immediately. Well who knew? The book is in the bookstores within 18 months.
I start writing more books and self publish all of them. Most are about creativity and are part experience and story. In the meantime, I need to pay the bills and I reach out to a unknown Art School graduate who created an amazing tent telling her I want to sell the tents here in the Benelux. I become the exclusive dealer on the mainland selling Lotus Belles and it’s a best seller.
I’m curious to learn more about business in a bigger way and start teaching at Art And Economics. I love the knowledge and take away GOLD.
The pandemic years and I go all-in online, to get out of the funk.I’m still blocked but keep busy and work 12-14 hour days… but nothing happens. Fear is with me all the time. Stressed out an a major level and feeling bad on a daily base.
I start 3 times over, working my butt off. But I resist stepping into it. I work long days on nothing.
I slowly realize I need my Inner Rebel to come forth, and take action. I start working on getting unblocked, slowly I discover that I had everything I need to know is already there and I start figuring out what I did before when i was thriving and how I made things happen. I realize I created my own trap and now I need to break rules left and right.
Collecting the valuable steps: I design my own method and find freedom at last. It’s hard work but it’s me and I love it!
The method is called: The Path, and it’s to help artists get unblocked and show them how to make things happen… their way!
Then hardship hits and limiting beliefs piled up.
I started to struggle and doubt everything.
This is when I somehow I forgot HOW I made EVERYTHING happen.
Resistance to be myself. As it seems to scary!
Rebel Club is born, from the ashes like a phoenix from the flames.
I start working from my authentic self again and build Rebel Club and The Escapists.
Freedom.
I finish writing my manuscript ‘Making Things Happen’… but need an editor.
Out of the blue a great editor (now friend) crosses my path…
It’s happening again!
Why do I tell you all of this?
Because this site is about you learning from my mistakes.
It’s about you avoiding the traps I fell into before I found myself as an artist.
Wish list:
Let my ideas run wild. Take that long overdue trip with my family. Share my vision with the world. Write that book or two. Create the work that I’ve been dying to create. Do what feels good. Be me 100% of the time. Travel to that small village that I visited as a child. Make more great memories. Break the rules & Make things happen!
