Why we do things our way,
and love it, because this is who we are.
If you are an artist, writer, illustrator or creative, you like to do things your way. I think it’s some build in natural urge we have. No rules, just us. We like to do things our way because we love to play, are curious about what will happen if we do things differently and tinker around a bit. Not just to be different or to do different but to be ourselves. Does that make us the odd one out? Yes, I guess it does. I have felt like an outsider for as long as I can remember. In the beginning, I hated this, the feeling of not belonging. Not being part of the group, not understanding things they laughed at, not doing things it was supposed to. Especially this. I don’t do things the way they are supposed to; I do things the way it feels right to me. That might be different; it might be the same. If this is the case, you’re lucky as you’ll fit in at least one day.
If not, you’ll stay the outsider.
But there is this beautiful thing about outsiders: we belong to another group. In this group, we are all outsiders. We are not mediocre. We come up with new ideas create wonderful things the world looks at with awe, and we are different. Because we aim to create, think and build differently. You see the same has already been done. There is nothing fun about that.
We choose to seek new, experience things, have adventures and create.
We break the rules, not on purpose, but because they make no sense to us. It’s not because we go out into the world thinking about what we can do differently or how we can break the rules. No, not at all. It feels like the rules have been made up by a guy named Kenneth, who drives an orange Nissan. And those —made up—rules don’t apply to us….. Well, as long as you don’t drive an orange Nissan. These rules, somehow, don’t fit in with how we think, feel, and live.
Since those rules are made up by another human being, we can make up our own rules, too.
Simple.
We go out into the world seeking rules to break. We just stumble upon something that’s just asking for a new way —a change. And most of the time, we change it.
So all I am asking you is to make up new rules, make up your own story, create what you desire. Nobody is stopping you!
You have permission!
